5 Business ideas for students and what you’ll need

As a student, you have the opportunity to bring your creativity to life as well as start-up small scale businesses. I don’t mean it is a must you have a

side business to make active or passive income. Some students may want to graduate before venturing into the business ideas they have while some may want to start immediately. What ever the case, these ideas are fantastic because they require little initial capital to start.

Tutoring.

There are different ways to tutor- online and offline. It’s a flexible way to combine schooling with business. In fact, it might be beneficial to your studies if you are tutoring people in your department. What you will need are: some lecture materials, stationeries, tutoring space. If you want to tutor online, you’ll need a good laptop or tab, access to the internet and zoom app (or any other app for video calls).

Create an online course.

This is similar to tutoring but in this case, it be accessible by anyone who registers to take the course. This course could be online as well as offline. What you will need:

- Access to the internet.

- Platform to launch the course (Udemy).

- Space to deliver the course.

- To be knowledgeable in the field.

Ebooks.

An ebook is an electronic book that can be read by anyone worldwide. Your ebook can be about anything you believe is marketable. However, make sure the information in the book is factual and accurate. There are a variety of niches to write on. What you’ll need: access to the internet, a laptop, an editor and proofreader, sometimes a lawyer.

Photography.

This is one of the most creative and lucrative businesses. Now that there are various smartphones and editing app to take professional pictures, most people opt for the option of a low budget tool. However, if you plan to take your photography business to greater heights, then the sky is your starting point. Whatever the case may be, these are some essential tools for basic photography business:

Quality smartphone.

Laptop.

Camera.

Tripod start.

Shutter remote.

Editing apps.

White balances.

Back-drops/studio background.

Professional printer.

Memory cards.

Catering.

I mean, who doesn’t love a good meal? If you’ve been told several times that your food speaks to the soul (well maybe someone says that), you could consider speaking to people’s souls with your food. Starting the business may seem daunting as it might be stressful at first but what most people do is, cook their meals in large quantities and share the pictures on their WhatsApp status for people to know what food is available. That can be your starting point. To consider going premium, you can include international recipes and some out-of-the-box recipes.

What you'll need for this business are cooking utensils, food ingredients, a good smartphone, internet access.
