Traditions are significant in our lives, they help us know and understand our roots. However,
there comes a time when we need to improve, grow and learn how to live in this fast-paced world. In my opinion, traditions related to our culture and heritage should not only be preserved but passed on to generations to come. Nowadays, a lot of people feel lost, they can’t seem to fit into any culture. It creates a crack in their cultural identity.
In contrast, there are a whole lot of traditional ways of getting things done that needs to be improved. To fit into wherever you find yourself, you need to be aware of your environment and grow. For instance, there was once a time the traditional method of communication was via letters, but that isn’t the case now.
It’s absolutely normal to be scared of the changes that you’re about to make, but determination makes it worth it.
To safely learn, unlearn and relearn, you’ll need to:
- identify what needs to change
- Get help if it seems daunting
- Determine what traditions are valuable and worth preserving
- Understand that changing doesn’t mean totally letting go of traditions. It just means readjusting to the times.
- Be aware of negative statements from those who won’t understand your change process.
Overall, traditions are good, chances are even better because it opens you up to a broader scope of knowledge.
