Can you imagine what it’s like to be surrounded by the constant reminders of global brutality- from the
#endsars protest to #blacklivesmatter. This mentally disturbing chaos that we have to live through isn’t for the weak at heart. Creating a balance between the outside world and your mental health gives the strength to be a better protester.
Equanimity or being equanimous is a state of calmness, mindfulness and tranquillity during difficult times.
It seems quite the opposite of our movement, right? What I mean is while we protest and call for a long-overdue change, we should care for our wellbeing and that of others. I believe this topic is vital because everyone is dealing with the #endsars protest differently. Just because you see how active the protesters are on your social media feed doesn’t mean there’s an equal level of ‘fighting spirit’.
While some individuals protest based on how deeply affected, they were, others protest to reiterate the importance of Nigerian lives.
In Summary, every life matters, everyone’s wellbeing matters the most. As we protest on any platform or location, let’s also care for those who may need our help (especially the directly affected).
Remember this: now you are living, your life matters to others.
