I never really understood the gravity of what it's like to be a mom. I read, watched and
listened to what will make me prepared for the change but because I wasn’t yet a parent, I didn't know how it will be for me. Notice I wrote 'understood' not 'knew' in the headline ⇑ that is because I already knew what to expect based on the information I got but I didn't understand because I hadn't experienced it.... do you understand what I mean?
Anyway, my experience so far has taught me that truly:
- Time is precious.
- It’s a never ending journey; I will always learn something new.
- Resting becomes priceless.
- Patience is a virtue.
- I'll be judged but I shouldn't let it bother me.
- You owe no one an explanation... Gaskiya!(Hausa for honestly)
- Multitasking becomes an important skill.
- I'll definitely learn how to sing and dance to make my son happy 🤣
- I’ll experience different changes in my body and mind.
- I don't have to lose who I am in the process of changing. (It's a tough choice)
- I shouldn’t get overwhelmed by 'mom guilt', it's real guys honestly.
- There’s no such thing as a perfect parent.
- Don’t be afraid to ask for help.
What did you wish you understood before becoming a parent?
