Two years ago, I worked in a heterogeneous team. In the initial stage of the team formation, we realized how different we were but we agreed to stay focused on the goal and learn from each other.
People tell me the difficulties they face in their teams (both homogenous and heterogeneous) and I always share what made my team effective.
- We realised our differences and decided to use it to our advantage.
- We focused more on the goal and also had time to bond as a team.
- We brought in our unique skills and decided to seek creative ways to handle the project.
- We delegated tasks that matched our strengths.
- Uplifted one another, made sure everyone was carried along and ensured that the tasks was well understood by everyone.
- Celebrated milestones.
- Resolved conflicted by facing it with the help of a mediator.
- Learnt from each other as it was a great way to appreciate diversity.
