Meghan Trainor on Being A Redhead: 'No One Recognizes Me'

When we were first introduced to Meghan Trainor, she was all about that … blond hair. But last month she switched up her signature shade, dyeing her hair red. Soon after she visited her colorist one again for a darker auburn hue. And according to the singer, her fans are having a hard time keeping track of what she looks like.

When we caught up with Trainor at the Kids Choice Awards, and had to ask if her fans still recognize her as a non-blonde. Turns out, her dark hair helps her go incognito.

“I’ve been going out every day. I went into the mall the other day, no sunglasses and hat, nothing crazy. I go out and dance and no one recognizes me,” she told PEOPLE of the reaction to her mane makeover.

And her fans aren’t the only ones getting used to the change — Trainor toldSeventeen that it took some time for her as well.

“I cried, and now I love it,” she told the magazine about her red shade. “I just have to get used to it. For 14 years I was blonde. I haven’t [had dark hair] since I was three years old.”
