In addition to her jaw-dropping vocals, Ariana Grande has (unofficially) become the queen of ponytails. It doesn’t matter if she’s rocking a half-up half-down style or working an I Dream of Genie topper, we rarely get to see the star without her signature hairdo. But in her latest video for her single Dangerous Woman, the 22-year-old gives us a nearly four-minute performance with her
brunette strands hanging freely over her shoulders.
Back in 2014, Grande mentioned in a Facebook post how dying her hair for Nickelodeon’s Victorious and Sam & Catdamaged her strands. “I had to bleach my hair and dye it red every other week for the first four years of playing Cat,” the star revealed. She even admits to trying wigs and weaves, but wasn’t a fan of either. “So as annoying as it is for y’all to have to look at the same hair style all the time, it’s all that works for now,” Grande explained.
Last year Grande gave us a peek at how her natural curls were thriving underneath the ponytail hairpieces with four selfies on Instagram. Her fans went crazy, and the image earned 1.5 million likes. Now, we get to see her with a straight look. And although it’s tough to tell if it’s all hers, it’s clear to see that her hair is much healthier than her Nickelodeon days.
The new look is also accompanied with a fresh sound. Usually the star delivers upbeat tempos with catchy hooks, but this song includes sultry lyrics and a moody rhythm that show us another side. This track is included on her third album, which also shares the same name.
It looks like she is taking her career (and hair) in a new direction. Recently, she showed the world that she’s quite the comedian on Saturday Night Live, where she nailed several celebrity impressions. In the hilarious skit, she tapped into Rihanna’s Bajan accent and even mastered Shakira’s iconic yodel. Perhaps she’s aiming for the triple threat: actress, singer, and comedian? We definitely can’t wait to see what’s next for the blossoming star.
